Major roads on the outskirts of Cape Town have been closed on Monday morning, after a devastating traffic accident claimed the lives of eight people and injured 13 more in Melkbosstrand. One critical patient has been airlifted to hospital.

During the morning rush-hour, a head-on collision between a Toyota Quantum minibus and a sedan caused abject carnage on a key artery to the N7. The incident occurred on Melkbosstrand Road, and it has caused a significant backlog of traffic:
- The M19 between N7 and Melkbosstrand has been cordoned off.
- Melkbosstrand Road is closed in both directions
- Furthermore, the busy Mamre Road exit has also been shut-off.
- We are expecting an update soon on when the roads will be reopened.
Crash on Melkbosstrand Rd east bound before the N7, left lane obstructed with stop and go in place. Expect delays.

We've been told that the SA Police Service (SAPS) have also arrived on the scene, as they desperately try and piece together what lead to such a deadly collision. First responders at the crash site in Melkbosstrand revealed that there had initially been seven fatalities – but that total was revised to eight just moments ago. The injuries reported range from moderate to critical.
